2009 NIAGARA FALLS
on hasbeen's travel map.
September 2009 there is a problem with VIARAIL in Canada. A strike maybe.
By way of an apology, VIA offered huge discounts on their rail services.
I jumped at the chance of going First Class to Niagara for a lot less than a regular seat.
My intention was to go to Niagara on the Lake.
I never made it passed the Falls.
NIAGARA FALLS
In passing I will note that Niagara has the most friendly, nicest people involved with tourists I have ever come across.
Every shop, tourist place, hotel. Wherever - everyone was so pleasant.
The falls themselves are incredibly close & so powerful.
A ride on the Maid of the Mist is going to be my second time.
It is really something, although the stuff that accumulates on the water near where you get on the boat is very yucky.
I would not like to take a dip in this water, If the rapids don't get you, the pollution will.
There is more to do here than just the falls.
There is the butterfly farm.
I may still have a little video here where the guy behind me says - "that little kid just stomped on a butterfly."
A trip to the top of the tower
A cable car across the Niagara River
A walk behind the falls. I could have skipped this. Impossible to see anything.
The show that preceded it was great though.
While waiting in line, they distribute rain ponchos. indoors!
They say we will need them
The show is an enactment of how the falls were formed, complete with thunder, lightning, rain &, if memory is not playing me false, an earthquake.
Great fun - & wet, very, very wet. No photos
Kids around me were loving it.
If the sun is out you are going to see rainbows at rainbow falls ...
From my hotel ...
Outside the Casino.
I forget how, but I managed to link two pictures together to get this..
A friend used that app to stitch three photos of her son & got him chasing himself down the garden .. very creative
