2014 - AEGEAN ODYSSEY - BODRUM, Turkey

View 2014 VOYAGE TO ANTIQUITY - AEGEAN & BLACK SEA on hasbeen's travel map.

Moving north, we arrive in Bodrum - where these two are bringing down the neighbourhood ......

Rumour has it that the boat in the background belongs to the owner of Chelsea FC & the one in the foreground belonged to someone he sued & who went bankrupt in the process.

True, who knows! Nice boats though.

Hard not to notice the helicopter.

The closest one has boats inside it. Like something out of James Bond.

Our tour this morning takes us into the castle, but on the way ...

we were promised a quick peek at the amphitheater & they did not lie.

I just managed this out of the bus.

The bus drops us off at the top of the hill & we wander downhill to ....

the Mausoleum of Halicarnasus.

Phew! for a second there I thought it was a SacrifiCial deposit...

Seems they got legless in the old days too ...

Leaving the ruins, we carry on downhill to the harbour ....

large_P1200113.jpglarge_P1200117.jpg

and into the castle we saw from the ship.

large_P1200120.jpglarge_P1200121.jpg

some nicely presented glass pieces ...

large_P1200123.jpglarge_P1200129.jpg

and mosaics ..

Queen Neferititi - don't know what she is doing here. A long way from Egypt

large_P1200132.jpglarge_P1200133.jpg

Layla - one of the Excursion girls, taking in the coastal view ...

That was a nice mornings walk & now it's time for a few hours on a sailing ship whose type I forget. They are modern ships that look old & can be chartered from here for days at a time.

There were a lot of us on board so the price was a very reasonable 40 some dollars each..

Here we are leaving Jenny & the Aegean Odyssey behind ...

large_P1200179.jpglarge_P1200195.jpg

Lots of people up on the top deck ...

large_P1200196.jpglarge_P1200198.jpg

It was hard for me to even stand up on board but the captain strolls past the steering wheel & parks his glass of tea on the rail like he is on shore ..

large_P1200206.jpglarge_P1200209.jpg

We were out for about four hours, giving people ( but not me ) the opportunity to swim & snorkel

large_P1200210.jpglarge_P1200228.jpg

Some of the neighbours in the bay ...

And we passed this strange building on the way home. Looks like the whole building is the shutter. Very odd.

large_P1200244.jpglarge_P1200248.jpg

Back on board for sundowners with the very lovely, ever smiling Lorraine.

One day when it was very windy, her entire collection of signed receipts went flying all over the ship. Poor thing. Hope she didn't get into trouble for that. I expect not.

large_P1200270.jpg

and the sailing ship is called a Gulet ..
