2014 - AEGEAN ODYSSEY - NESSEBUR, Bulgaria
Sat 11 Oct 2014
We are now parked in Burgas but the destination is just up the coast - Nessebur...
First stop is of course a Museum. This one is very nice..
Here is a treasure trove of silver ...
and gold ..
and pottery
But my attention wavers & I am soon outside. Waiting for the group to appear .. I see Sunny Beach in the distance ...
some cormorants on a statue & what looks like a very large sand dune.
Now a walk through the town ..
One church after another .. Byzantine churches ...
Spot the swastika motif . Nothing Nazi about it though. Way before their time .
There is a name for those type of decoration but I forget ...
Souvenir shops of course ...
Now we are inside a church.....
Saint Stephen I think ...
That's a little creepy ..
Layla, our baby sitter for the day, was looking a bit tired in here. And no wonder. She let me heft the bag she is required to carry around. It weighs a ton.
She needs ----
We leave our guide & get to walk around town on our own. I head into a little store for a bottle of something with ginger in it.
And also find a nice spot for a sit down for a pancake just like mother used to make & a beer ..
Another stop for a coffee & cake then on with the walk around the peninsula ...
Looks heavy work by the locals ...
A stop here for a restorative glass of local Brandy. Quite a lot of brandy, came in a nice little bottle with a cork stopper.
On the way back to Burgas - this is a pile of salt, evaporated from lagoons.
Another pleasant day.
That will be the last stop in the Black Sea.
We will now pass through the Bosphorus, Istanbul, the Dardanelles & back into the Aegean or some more of Greece..
